Waltham Allotments formerly the Gravel Pits are situated on the corner of the High Street/Ings Lane.
Records are held of rent received from 1945 when the rent was four shillings – 20pence.
The average size of the plots is 1.08 metres.
The number of plots on the site is 60. These are all workable and the number of plots occupied is 60.
The condition of the site is excellent with a low level of vandalism.
There is no Allotments Holders Association.
All allotments are entered in the Waltham Parish Councils “Best Kept Allotments Competition.”
The rental charge per plot is £7.50. This includes water; there are no concessionary rates.
The rent is due on or before Easter Monday in each year and if it is not paid by then the Council reserve the right to re-let the allotment to another tenant without further notice.
These Allotments are let to Waltham residents only as the land was gifted to the poor of the village and the Parish Council was put in charge to administer this.
Due to the popularity of our allotments in 2011 Waltham Parish Council purchased a 4-acre piece of land that had become available on Station Road and made a new set of allotments.
These allotments are available for both residents and non-residents to rent on a yearly basis. Each plot is 6 meters by 12 meters in size and there are currently 63 plots on the land and we have the option of creating more should they be needed. The cost to rent one of these allotments is £52 per year. This rent is higher that the Gravel Pit allotments because the parish has had to purchase the land and put in the amenities associated with an allotment. Anyone wishing to rent an allotment should contact the Clerk at the Parish Office or via the contacts page on this website.
There is currently a waiting list for both allotments.
